LG GW990 should be the First Intel Based Smartphone
According to the plan, LG GW990 should be the first Intel processor-based smartphones would released to the market. The prototype was introduced at Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, Spain a few months ago.
However, there is rumor that the smartphone has been cancelled by its manufacturer. The rumor was not confirmed, but Phone Arena technology site reported, the LG source states that LG GW990 was just at concept level and not necessarily entering mass production.
It’s pity indeed if LG GW990 failed to be produced. The reason is that this smartphone quite sophisticated even can say it’s a half of tablet with a 4.8-inch touch screen and a resolution of 1024×480 pixels, multi-window UI, 3D gaming, HSPA, and 5 MP camera. The processors would use Moorestown platform which newly launched by Intel, Tuesday (05/04/2010) as a Z6xx series. When introduced in Barcelona, LG said GW990 will use an operating system made by Intel’s Moblin 2.1.
However, Intel and Nokia recently struck a deal to merge the open source development platform based both. Intel Maemoand Nokia Moblin merged into the new platform, named MeeGo. So far, the release schedule MeeGo still unclear. Maemo is already in use on the Nokia tablet device and the latest in smartphone Nokia N900. Moblin himself died before use.
Is LG persisted to produces LG GW990 with Moblin, backward, or have a new plan with MeeGo? We’ll see.
